Frequently Asked Questions

What horses are eligible for the Dressage Futurity?

The Dressage Breeders Futurity is open to four year old horses by nominated stallions (including International Jumper Futurity nominated stallions), which were foaled in the US or Canada. Horses conceived by imported frozen semen or imported in utero are eligible as long as they were foaled in the US, or Canada, and the stallion was nominated to the program at the time the horse was conceived.

When and where will the Futurity be?

Due to confusion surrounding the USEF and FEI 4YO Dressage Horse tests, the following method will be used for Dressage Futurity payments until further notice. Horses will qualify by earning a score in a minimum of two FEI or USEF 4-Year-Old tests. Scores may be earned in a division restricted to young horses, or in a Test-of-Choice class. Owners must submit their scores directly to the IDF office within 15 days of the show date for posting on the website and ranking of the horses. Prize money will be paid based on the average of the two best scores (see below). Only the two best scores will be counted and lower scores will be dropped if a better score is earned.

How will prize money be awarded?

Prize money in the futurity will be awarded based on scores. Prize money will be mailed to the owners of record before December 1, 2006.

6.5 to 7.5 $750
7.6 to 8.4 $1,000
above 8.5 $1,500

$100 to the nominator of the young horse
$200 to the stallion nominator for every young horses competing in the Regionals

What about further competitions?

Nominated horses are eligible for Futurity bonuses if they go on to compete in the 5 and 6 year old Young Horse Dressage classes, regardless of whether they competed as four year olds. Owners of 5 and 6 year old horses (of 2006) that are Futurity nominated and competing in Young Dressage Horse classes and qualifiers should submit their scores to the Futurity office as detailed above in order to earn IDF bonus awards.

What is the process to nominate a stallion?
Stallions must be nominated on an annual basis in order to make the foals conceived that year eligible to be nominated to compete in Futurity events. The yearly nomination fee for each stallion is equal to his established stud fee for that year (see fee schedule below). Stallion nominations are due by November 30, 2005 for the 2006 competition year.

To make offspring conceived in 2005 eligible for the futurity, the fee is equal to the 2005 stud fee.

To make offspring conceived in 1997-2005 eligible for the futurity, the fee is equal to double the 2005 stud fee.

For stallions deceased, gelded or retired from stud, the fee is $400. For stallions standing for an advertised fee below $500, the nomination fee is $500. For stallions. standing for an advertised fee greater than $5,000. the nomination Fee is $5,000. For private stallions, not standing to outside mares, the fee is $750.

What about foreign stallions with frozen semen in the US?

The nominating fee for stallions whose frozen semen is marketed in the US will be $1500 (per year). The stallion must be nominated by the owner or an authorized agent.

How much will it cost to nominate a horse?

For the remainder of 2005, three year old horses can be nominated for the new program at the reduced rate of $600, provided that they agree to limit eligibility to the dressage program only. Nomination fees:

Yearling          $200 (eligible for either dressage, jumping or both)
2 year old       $600 (eligible for either dressage, jumping or both)
3 year olds     $600 (eligible for dressage only)

Beginning 2006, the rates will be the same as those for the IJF program, which are currently:

Yearling         $200,

2 year old       $600,

3 year old       $1000,

4 year old       $1400.

Are there any multi-horse discounts?

Nominate two young horses and the third nomination is free. There is no limit to the number of nominations allowed but all horses must be the same age and owned by the same nominator. In the case of stallions, nominate two at full price of their stud fee and all others at 1/2 their stud fee (50% discount). The stallions must all be owned by the same person.

My stallion and young horses are already nominated to the International Jumper Futurity. Do I have to pay additional fees for the Dressage Breeders Futurity?
No. The International Jumper and Dressage Breeders Futurity are two sections of the same program. Your horses are automatically enrolled if they are IJF nominated.
